If you qualify, you can receive 2-3x higher rebates than standard programs, and many upgrades are completely free. These programs are designed to make energy efficiency accessible to all Massachusetts residents.
How to Qualify
1 Income-Based Qualification
Your household income is at or below 60% of State Median Income (SMI) or 80% of Area Median Income (AMI).

Schedule a Home Energy Assessment
Call Mass Save at 1-866-527-7283 or schedule online. Mention that you may be income-eligible for enhanced services.
Verify Your Eligibility
Provide proof of income or program participation. The energy specialist can help you determine which documentation is needed.
Receive Your Assessment
A specialist will evaluate your home and explain all the no-cost and reduced-cost upgrades available to you.
Schedule Your Upgrades
Many upgrades can be scheduled immediately. Larger projects like heat pumps will be coordinated with approved contractors.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my income information kept confidential?
Yes. Your income information is only used to determine program eligibility and is kept strictly confidential by Mass Save and your utility company.
Do I need to own my home to qualify?
No. Both homeowners and renters can qualify for income-based programs, though renters may need landlord permission for certain upgrades.
What documentation do I need?
You may need recent tax returns, pay stubs, or proof of participation in qualifying assistance programs. The Mass Save representative will tell you exactly what's needed.
Can I still get federal tax credits?
No. The federal 25C and 25D credits were repealed effective 31 December 2025 and cannot be claimed for work done in 2026. That loss falls more lightly here than elsewhere: a tax credit only helps if you owe enough tax to absorb it, so many income-qualified households could never use it anyway. The Massachusetts programmes above are unaffected, and for households at or below the Income Eligible threshold they often cover the entire cost.
