Running this site costs money, so it's fair that you know how it's paid for. This page explains exactly how we earn, which links are partner links, and what those relationships do and don't influence.
The short version
Some outbound links on this site earn us a referral fee. It never costs you extra, and it never changes the rebate amounts we publish or the advice we give. Contractor listings are free and cannot be bought.
What a partner link is
A partner link (also called an affiliate or referral link) is a link that tells the destination site we sent you. If you go on to use that service, we may be paid a referral fee. You pay nothing extra, and the price you're offered is the same as if you had gone there directly.
Who we currently partner with
As of August 21, 2026, we have exactly one partner relationship:
EnergySage
A free marketplace where homeowners compare quotes from vetted solar, heat pump and battery installers. Links to EnergySage from our article about it carry a referral code, and we may be paid if you request quotes through one.
That article carries a disclosure at the top, above the first link, so you see it before you click rather than after.
If we add another partner, it will be listed here and disclosed on any page where it appears.
What partner relationships do not affect
- Rebate amounts. Every figure on this site comes from the program that pays it — Mass Save, the IRS, or your utility. No partner has any influence over what we publish.
- Which programs we cover. We cover a program because Massachusetts homeowners can claim it, not because anyone pays us.
- Our contractor directory. See below.
- Our recommendations. If a partner's service isn't the right fit for a situation, we say so.
The contractor directory is free
No contractor pays to be listed in our directory, to rank higher in it, or to be removed from it. Listings are free, and we add contractors based on our own research. If that ever changes, we will say so here and on the directory itself before it takes effect.
About our contractor links
When you click through to a contractor's website from our directory, the link passes
through our own site first (a /go/ address) so we can count the click. This
is not a partner link and earns us nothing. We use it only to understand which listings
are useful. No personal information is collected or passed on.
If you'd rather not use a partner link
That's completely fine, and the information on this site is the same either way. You can go to any partner's website directly by typing their address into your browser. You'll get the same service and the same price; we simply won't be paid for it.
